5 Seconds of Summer are currently in the middle of promoting their new album, CALM, and have just released the acoustic version of their lead single, “Complete Mess.” The boys sat down with Zane Lowe on Apple Music to talk about the new album, and during the interview, they revealed that “Complete Mess” was actually written about 5 years ago.
“It was actually one of the first songs we ever wrote together as a band,” says Luke Hemmings. “It was written when we were all living in each other’s pockets, touring the world and just kind of being young and reckless.”
“It’s funny, because the song is actually about growing up and realizing that life is a bit of a mess,” adds Michael Clifford. “But at the time, we were just living in the moment and not really thinking about the future.”
