Jason DeFord (born December 4, 1984), known professionally as Jelly Roll (sometimes written as JellyRoll), is an American rapper and singer known for his collaborations with Lil Wyte, Struggle Jennings, Tech N9ne and Ryan Upchurch, and this time, he Embark on his music career to release this whooping track titled “Son Of A Sinner” which is here for your pleasing audience and Free MP3 Download on our platform, Mixloaded.com.
“Son of a Sinner” is a song by American musician Jelly Roll. It is the second single from his 2021 album Ballads of the Broken. The song is also Jelly Roll’s first single release to the country music format.
Jelly Roll wrote “Son Of A Sinner” during a songwriting session at Nashville’s Sound Emporium with frequent co-worker David Ray. When Nashville singer-songwriter and Morgan Wallen collaborator Ernest K. Smith showed up at the studio while having a barbecue dinner with his wife, Ray lent Smith his guitar.
“I walked in half drunk, my shirt was unbuttoned, I sat down, I got a guitar, they put on a vocal note and I spit out that chorus,” Smith recalled to Billboard. “We played with a verse for about 20 minutes, and then I left.”
“When Ernest finished and gave me my guitar back,” Ray added. “He said, ‘I don’t know where that came from, but I’m glad they sent it to us.’ He just looked at it like something from above entered the room and caused it to spill over.”
After Smith left, Jelly Roll and Ray built verses around Smith’s soul cry. They came up with two verses and a bridge where Jelly Roll confesses succumbing to temptation and his need for God’s saving grace. “There are points in the song where it becomes extremely autobiographical,” said Jelly Roll. “Some music is meant to be heard, and other music is meant to be felt. Personally, I try to make the kind of music that is meant to be felt.”
Jelly Roll asked Ernest to produce the track, who then recruited guitarist Ilya Toshinsky to help with the process. Toshinsky, in turn, enlisted drummer Shannon Forrest and bassist Craig Young to help him lay out the track. “Craig was literally hospitalized right after we recorded this song,” Toshinsky recalled. “She was complaining of stomach pain. She thought she’d be fine, but by the time the last chord was played, she was leaving to go to the ER. Two days later, she was diagnosed with COVID-19. She had a horrible couple of weeks there, but Craig, he’s very expressive on the bass.”
Moreover, “Son of a Sinner” debuted at #67 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the chart week ending of July 16, 2022. It goes down as Jelly Roll’s first entry on the chart.
